- Compress raw video sequences in RGB or CCIR formats, supporting certain coding options in MPEG-1/MPEG-2, SNR scalable coding, optional leaky bucket channel adaptation (rate control), etc.
- Generate statistical data while encoding, show result (such as autocorrelation) in gnuplot, generate ps graphic files, etc.
The freely distributed Berkeley MPEG-1 Video Encoder. The encoder implements the standard described in the ISO/IEC International Standard 11172-2.

Both utilities are currently only available on the HP platform.
- MPEG2Tool must be run from the same directory as it is setup from.
MPEG utilities use standard setup scripts. The application name is "mpeg" (See "helpme setup" for instructions.)
MPEG2Tool" will run the program, which will bring up a window with various options.
mpeg_encode" will run the MPEG encoder, and will give a list of command line options.
There is also a man page available for mpeg_enocde, type "
man mpeg_encode" to access it.
